Packaging and Environment (I)

First, products and packaging
Since human society has had the circulation of goods, there has been the existence of packaging. The beginning of the packaging is very simple, such as clay pots, straw baskets, straw ropes, wooden boxes and so on. And the role of packaging at that time was limited to the protection of goods and ease of transport. With the development of the commodity economy, packaging has become a means of marketing, playing the role of protecting the goods, facilitating transportation, easily identifying, communicating, reflecting culture, and promoting sales. Now, packaging has become an important process that cannot be ignored in the production of products.
China's packaging industry started in the 1980s and developed in the 1990s. Nowadays, China's packaging industry has formed a modern packaging industry development pattern that is based on paper products, plastics, metals, glass, wooden packaging products and packaging machinery, packaging and printing, packaging design and packaging education to meet the requirements of commodity packaging.
In the fierce market competition, whether products can win the favor of customers, companies generally improve product quality, reduce prices, improve service as a marketing tool. However, with the development of consumer demand and the improvement of social productivity, this degree of freedom is getting smaller and smaller. Therefore, the search for an alternative means of competition has become the company's new marketing strategy.
Packaging is one of the new marketing strategies. Now, marketing experts have listed packaging as equally important in terms of product quality, characteristics, samples, and brands.
According to a market survey conducted by DuPont, the world's largest chemical company, the famous DuPont law was discovered. That is, 63% of consumers decide whether to purchase a certain product based on the packaging and decoration of the product. It can be seen that packaging has become a silent salesman of products. Some people described magnifying glass as a product feature. What are the characteristics of a product, consumers often through the packaging of pictures and text can have a general understanding of the product. Packaging can also bring convenience to sales, enabling consumers who are hesitant about inconvenient portability to make up their minds about what they need. Packaging also determines the positioning of a product in the market. If the company locates its products on the general public, then the packaging should be simple and simple. If a very valuable product is used, the packaging should be upscale. A bottle of expensive French perfume must have a beautiful package to match. This is the truth of "a good horse with a good saddle." Packaging can also bring security. The most primitive and basic function of packaging is to prevent breakage, leakage, deterioration, etc. of goods. Therefore, packaging also has the function of protecting products, preventing pollution, and being environmentally friendly.
China has increased the pace of development of the packaging industry since the 1980s. In the 1990s, the backward appearance of the first-class products, second-class packaging, and third-class prices of Chinese goods has been changed. In terms of transport packaging alone, the packaging of 22 types of goods has been improved. Flat glass, for example, has been improved from past wooden crates and straw to palletized packaging. It not only saves wood, but also greatly reduces damage and facilitates transportation. In sales packaging, PET and PE bottles have replaced glass bottles in the packaging of beverages and purified water. Two-piece cans and three-piece cans are widely used in carbonated drinks, juice drinks and beer packaging. The application of plastic composite materials in vacuum fresh-keeping packaging provides a guarantee for extending the shelf life of meat products.
Now, as long as you take a look at shopping malls and supermarkets, the colorful and beautifully printed packaging really makes you feel that packaging has already entered people's lives. World Packaging Organization Secretary-General william C Pfiaum said that if there is no packaging, society will become what. Without packaging, all food must be produced locally and eaten as soon as possible. No food can be used to save the state, let alone ship to other countries. Therefore, the packaging industry is one of the important industries for social and economic development.
Second, the relationship between the development of packaging and the environment
1, packaging and environmental pollution
Just as people enjoy the convenient, hygienic, safe and beautiful taste that packaging brings to life, a crisis is quietly coming to us. This is the waste of resources and environmental pollution caused by a large amount of packaging waste in recent years. According to statistics, the global amount of plastic packaging alone reached more than 30 million tons, while plastic packaging waste accounted for one-third of the total. In the United States, there are approximately 150 million tons of solid waste in the city within one year; in Japan, about 50 million tons of solid waste will be produced in one year. China is the fourth largest plastic producer in the world, with an annual output of 15 million tons, of which 30% is used for packaging. 70% of these plastic packagings are disposable after being used for single use.
Environmentalists point out that this year, China's packaging waste will increase at an annual rate of 3-5%. These wastes destroy the ecological balance and become a public hazard. (To be continued)
